Carnwath

Carnwath Golf Club traces back to a public meeting in the town hall in March 1907, with the backing of Sir Simon MacDonald Lockhart of the Lee Estates. The original nine holes were laid out by Willie Auchterlonie, the 1893 Open Champion, and formally opened that June by Lady Hilda Lockhart. The course was extended to eighteen holes in 1922, and by the 1930s was drawing several thousand visiting golfers a year. A further redesign in 1963 by club champion G. M. Clark, using an additional twenty acres acquired to the south, produced the layout still played today. Set on Gallow Hill above the village, it's a mature parkland course with a strong tradition as a members' club rather than a championship venue.

In 2012, after a rain delay, Ally Campbell saw off Bobby Ferguson in a four-hole playoff to claim the Champion Golfer Of The Year by 2 shots.
