Blairgowrie

The Rosemount is one of Scotland's classic inland tests, laid out through mature pine and silver birch a short drive from Blairgowrie. The club was founded in 1889, and Alister MacKenzie was brought in to extend the original nine holes to a full eighteen, a project delayed by the First World War and not completed until 1927. James Braid added a further eight holes in 1930, so today's course is principally a Braid design carrying MacKenzie's earlier influence through several holes — heather, pine and gorse framing every fairway. The course has a genuine competitive pedigree: Greg Norman won his first European Tour title here at the 1977 Martini International, and in 1973 Lionel Platts set a world record with ten consecutive birdies during a round on the Rosemount. It remains regarded as one of the finest heathland-style courses in Scotland outside the championship links belt.
